SPEAK

speak

Title: Speak.

Author: Laurie Halse Anderson.

Category: Teen Fiction

I really don’t know where to start my review of this book. I had never even heard of it before until I saw it lying around my house and I’m sure glad I didn’t ignore it when it beckoned on me (lol). I was basically stuck in little Mel’s head all through the book. I must admit, it’s a little disturbing, but I had quite a ride.
SNEAK PEEK
Speak is about young girl who tells her story of the consequences of a holiday gone bad. This hunts her throughout her first year in high school. She becomes the outcast of the school and even her best friends become her worst enemies. This also makes her almostdumb (not medically) but she couldn’t speak to anyone, couldn’t even answer questions in class, and her lack of parental care didn’t help matters. All her relationships suffer and even her grades are not left out. The event at a party is what leads to this rather emotional story. I won’t tell you what happened; I mean we don’t want spoilers do we? So my lips are sealed on the matter (go and get your own copy!).
COMMENTARY
The book is written such a way that you actually feel everything Mel felt. We get to see through her eyes, laugh when she laughs, hate those she hates and agree with everything she agrees with. I loved the feel. I loved that I didn’t really get a chance to do judge most of the characters myself, it was refreshing. This book is one every parent must read and discuss with their teenage daughters (or maybe not…lol) but it is something every member of the family should read!

UNEARTHLY TRIOLOGY

Author Cynthia Hand.
Category: Teen Romance
Books: Unearthly, Hallowed, and Boundless.

I really don’t have anything against romance novels (except for the explicit contents of course). For me, it’s neither the beginning, nor the end that matters, but everything in between. The question of how they fall in love and the circumstances surrounding their affairs is what keeps me reading.
I have read romance stories about People, Werewolves, Vampires and even Zombies (yes, zombies fall in love too), but never have I read anything about Angels. After reading the first Part of the three books, I honestly could have traded my birthright for the remaining two parts. I couldn’t sleep well until I got the other parts of the book. Being her first books, I must confess that, this woman is definitely here to stay.
Review
The books tell the story of Clara, a young half angel and half human, who discovers her purpose. Her whole life takes an entirely different turn. She also gets torn between her love for Tucker (a human from her high school) and Christian (an Angel blood). We also get to see some action between the Fallen Angels (a.k.a Black wings) and the Angels who are still on God’s side.

Comments
This story is one that stays in your head several days after you have read it. We get to follow a beautifully crafted romance story without any explicit content, not even a swear word (can you believe that!!!). In fact, I see this book replacing Twilight for a very long time.
Eventually, Clara made her decision and picked one of the boys. I think it would be totally unfair for me to try to summarize these three wonderful books in a page, so go and get a copy and let me know whether you’re Team Christian or Team Tucker and find out for real who she choose. Until then, I remain an ever faithful member of #TeamChristian.
